The annual American Music Awards features a star-studded lineup of music’s top performers and honors artists in the categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational. Past winners include Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Blake Shelton, Drake, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Adele, and Hillsong United.

The American Music Awards were created by showman Dick Clark in 1973 as an alternative to the Grammy Awards. While the Grammy Awards are awarded based on votes by members of the entertainment industry, the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers. American Music Awards nominations are based on sales and airplay.
