Schramsberg Vineyards
Wine goes with food, and food goes with wine. After touring the caves and learning the rich history of Schramsberg, followed by an explanation of traditional method of making sparkling wines, you will be guided through a fun exploration of the nuances between wine and food and how each of these can affect the way you taste and experience flavors. You will taste a variety of our limited production sparkling and still wines paired with select cheeses.
Schramsberg’s founders, Jack and Jamie Davies were determined to seek out a simpler, more meaningful life. In 1965, after a yearlong search, they discovered a run-down winery on the mountainside above St. Helena. The 19th century Victorian mansion presided over the tangled remains of once stately gardens and underground cellars. The historic Schramsberg property had been abandoned for years, but the Davies were looking for a challenge. On that day they decided Schramsberg would be brought back to life.
The Davies had an ambition to make wine, but not just any wine. They were setting out to produce a world-class sparkling wine, and it was a lofty goal. Later that year, the 1965 Blanc de Blancs came to be, and would be the first commercial use of Chardonnay in American sparkling wine.
Quintessa Estate
The Estate Experience an immersive look into the Quintessa Estate. This experience will begin with a guided walk to a scenic overlook of the property, with sweeping views of the vineyards encompassing the Rutherford appellation. Your Quintessa host will then guide you through the caves and gravity-flow winery to learn more about the winemaking process. The experience culminates in a relaxed sit-down tasting showcasing Illumination Sauvignon Blanc, 2015 Quintessa and two library vintages.
Quintessa captures the essence of the Napa Valley from every vantage point. Here, the landscape rises and falls with undulating vineyard blocks set amidst natural vegetation and groves of ancient oaks. To preserve the natural mosaic of the vineyard, each small plot is farmed, harvested and vinified individually so that the nuances of the land shine through. Afterward, the best components are brought together to create a wine of elegancy and harmony.
Palmaz Vineyards
Tour one of the most unparalleled and exceptional wineries in the Napa Valley at Palmaz Vineyards. Walk through several levels of the cave where you will learn how Palmaz wines are made in an engineering marvel. Then guests will enjoy a tasting of five blends, each paired with a small hors d’ oeuvre.
At Palmaz, they believe farming the individual vine, not the vineyard. Tradition and technology seamlessly come together to give insights into the needs of each vine. While nothing replaces the knowledge gained from walking through the vineyard, personally touching each vine, technologies such as advanced Geographic Informational Systems (GIS) give the winemaking team an understanding of what vines need both above- and below-ground.
By combining farming techniques from the organic, biodynamic and erosion-control philosophies, the Palmaz family has created a truly sustainable farm that will produce great wine for generations to come. From diverse cover crops in the winter to a deficit-irrigation program in the summer, tending to the land is a year-round program.
